It's been several months since I've put anything on our family blog. This is most likely due to me starting a blog of my own for fitness.
http://typercy.blogspot.com Even that blog hasn't been updated in several weeks. I guess it's time to get back on track. In July of 2009 I blogged about losing our Golden Retriever, Josie. After 18 months of "recovery" from losing her, we were finally ready to begin doing some research on our next dog. Over the past 18 months we have talked about what breed of dog we would get when we were ready to be dog owners again. We talked about at least a dozen different breeds, but nothing seemed right. We decided that our best option was to stick with a Golden Retriever. I started doing research on breeders. Breeders to avoid, breeders check out, etc. I had no idea there were so many things to consider when looking for a healthy dog! I won't bore you with everything I learned, but if you are looking for a healthy dog, don't necessarily go for the breeder with the least expensive puppies! About a week and a half ago, we met with a breeder who lives in Bellingham, WA, but was down for the Portland Dog Show. He had brought one of his 15 month old Goldens with him. We spent about two hours with them and came away very impressed. This is the type of breeder we want to support and get our next dog from. We put a deposit down before we left. They were breeding one of their dogs even as we were meeting with him. We found out last night that the due date is going to be March 26, 2011. We should be able to pick her up 8 weeks after birth. We are excited! The breeder we chose is Ken Matthews and Wayne Miller who own chuckanut retrievers.
www.chuckanutretrievers.com They have one of only two Golden Retrievers to ever win the sporting class at Westminster (2006-Andy) We are still thinking of names for our new little girl, so if you have a suggestion, please leave a comment.
